DIY Paper Mache Easter Egg

I used paper mache technique to make this big Easter egg. Actually, this technique is very simple. For the egg shape I used a balloon. I plastered the balloon with strips of chopped newspaper, soaked in a mixture of glue and water. You can use the white wood glue mixed with water in the ratio 3/4 parts of glue and 1/4 of water.
Make sure to apply it layer by layer, and never apply more than four layers (I did 3). After completing, leave it to dry naturally, or dry with hair dryer. I left it to dry overnight. Then I painted egg with acrylic paint, using white for the outside, and green for the inside. Then comes the fun part, decorating. I found these lovely butterflies on the internet (I don`t remember where...sorry), print it and glued two together, so they look more naturally. After that I add a little patina on the silk flowers, pink lace and white ribbon. For the opening on the egg I used small styrofoam eggs (cut in half) and pearls. For the finale part I add a little grass, bird and small nest with eggs inside.

The second egg is actually from a dollar store. Didn`t like it at all, but I've seen that it has the potential. I just paint it and decoupaged and that`s all.

I found this sweet vintage rabbits on the internet (I think it was on a The Graphics Fairy). I just glue them on the stronger cardboard, added some glue on the edges and add glitter. Very simple!

Krajnje jednostavno.

Decoupage On Easter Eggs And DIY Bird Nest

This year I decided to get ready for Easter on time and skip all the last minute tasks, so I started to work on my eggs, because they are definitely one of the most important features of this holiday. They can be decorated in so many ways, but this weekend I used some spare time to do decoupage on wooden eggs and to make a lovely bird nests. Eggs are painted with acrylic paint and I also did a decoupage with cute napkins. Finally, I did a bit of painting and coated everything with a layer of clear acrylic sealer.

To make my nests, I used a rope but you can also use burlap. Cut randomly longer and shorter pieces of rope, and split each in two parts. I didn`t had sticky glue on hand, so I used the hot glue gun. Also, I didn`t put cardboard on the bottom, but you can, because that way your nest will be more firm and durable. Forming the nest is very simple. First made the smallest hoop and then follow with the bigger, until you got the size you want. I recommend that you don`t try to be perfect because it's even better when it`s a bit messy. To finish it, add a few mini eggs and a bird! Adorable, right?!

Zar nije preslatko?!
