Milk glass, also called opal glass, is an opaque milky white glass that is very popular in home decorating. Milk glass is beautiful, highly collectible and very expensive, but you can make your own version using just a few inexpensive items.
Look around your home for cheap vases, bottles, mason jars or any glass objects that has a shape and size that appeals to you. You can make DIY faux milk glass out of vases, but you can also paint any other glass object.
To make the hobnails on the glass (you don`t have to) you need a hot glue gun. When I started making my hobnails it was a little tricky to achieve the desired shape, but I quickly realized that the was best way is to make a small drop of glue on the glass and rotate the gun in circles to hold the shape. It is necessary to wait a few seconds for the glue to harden, otherwise your hobnail will turn into a tear shape (I learned the hard way). In any case, don`t be afraid to try because you can easily remove the failed hobnails and do it again.
Materials:
Cheap clear vases, glasses, bottles, mason jars...
Hot glue gun
White glossy spray paint
Materijal:
Jeftine vaze, čaše, flaše, tegle...
Pištolj za vruće lepljenje
Bela boja u spreju (sjajna)
Tutorial:
Clean the glass thoroughly, and rub the surface with rubbing alcohol. The paint will stick better when the glass is clean. Find a well ventilated area, preferably outside (I do it on my balcony), and set your glass objects upside down.Spray paint in light, even strokes. Don’t worry if it’s a little uneven after the first coat. Too much paint, and you’ll get ugly drippage.
Let the glass dry for at least an hour, then cover in a second coat. Dry, turn the glass objects right side up and even out paint. Lightly spray the inner rim of the glass to make it perfect. Let dry and enjoy your DIY!
Have you ever tried to make your own faux milk glass? I just had to make my own to see how it really would look. I love them; What do you think?
Tutorijal:
