A Touch of Spring in the Kitchen

Hi friends, and welcome back for another tour. If you missed my Spring Home Tour - Living room, you can check it HERE. This time I’m sharing our kitchen and although I didn’t go overboard with Spring decorating, by just bringing a touch of Spring with a fresh flowers and a few new details, it already feels fresher.

Zdravo svima i dobro došli u još jedan kutak našeg doma.
As I said, I really don’t decorate my kitchen that much, because the kitchen at Home Chic Club is the workhorse of my home! I cook, bake and even craft there daily, so I try to keep things simple with just a touch of Spring.

Five years ago the kitchen went through a renovation. Did you know that this renovation was a starting point for the Home Chic Club blog? Yes, when we started this renovation, I wanted to capture the moment and then it come to my mind... Why not share it on the blog? And so it all started, and ends in the kitchen. There we constantly bump to each other, our friends love to chat while I`m cooking and I love to drink my morning coffee. I think, every kitchen has some kind of magic, don`t you agree?
When we started renovation, I knew I want a white kitchen. And I’m really loving our white kitchen, but when Spring comes, I really enjoy a little color. Adding color with fresh flowers, like this gentle lily or gorgeous tulips, is my way of doing it. Beautiful scent also comes in handy, right?

These gorgeous yellow tulips are arranged in a small pitcher, next to a cake stand full of fresh lemons. They give me such a pleasure while I`m sitting in a dinning room and looking towards the kitchen.

Fresh fruits, potted herbs or even veggies are not just food, they are also a really inexpensive way to refresh and decorate and they will look great anywhere in the kitchen.
I’ve also been craving lighter, healthier food lately, but I can`t resist to a piece of dark chocolate once in a while. It`s healthy and delicious, so I thought it`s ok to have some. Don`t you agree? I do.

I also find this lovely lilac yesterday...they are not in a full bloom yet, so I`ll have to wait a day or two to enjoy in their full beauty.  But they are lovely anyway.

The other day, I went for a walk and I find these adorable vinegar and oil dispenser in a soft pink tone and I had to brought them home. But, I left behind spaghetti jar and that was bothering me. So, yesterday I went back to pick it up. Much nicer when they are together, right?  😉

Besides this cute pastels, I really love all white dishes. They will help keep my kitchen feeling airy and won’t take away from this gorgeous spring flowers.

Osim ovih pastelnih detalja, u principu najviše volim belo posuđe. Uz njega kuhinja uvek deluje prozračno i lako, a njihova belina samo još više ističe sve nijanse prolećnog cveća.
So there you go friends. A little touch of sun and Spring in our kitchen.
Thank you so much for stopping by today…xo.  I hope you enjoyed my Spring kitchen and I’m looking forward to sharing more Easter and Spring decor as the season approaches.
Did you get some new ideas for your kitchen? I would love to hear from you!!

Nostalgic But Fresh - Midcentury Modern

When
Midcentury modern style reappeared in our homes after more than a four decades. It`s nostalgic but fresh style and it`s wildly popular in interior design this days.
Just as the name implies, this style appeared in the middle of the 20th century, and it was occupying our homes from the mid-1940`s to 1970`s. It`s uncomplicated, fresh aesthetic derived from a desire to take design into the modern era with a bold new lines.

Midcentury modern's emphasis on pared-down forms, contemporary patterns and natural materials creating a functional and chic style.
Centers of the Mid Century Modern aesthetic was in the United States, Britain, Japan, and Scandinavia. In the U.S., Herman Miller produced iconic chairs for Charles and Ray Eames, as well as the famous Marshmallow sofas for George Nelson. Knoll made interesting wire chairs for Harry Bertoia and cool, Tulip chairs for Eero Saarinen. But they were not the only one, there were so many more great designers, like Ernest Race, Isamu Noguchi, George Nakashima, Børge Mogensen, Arne Jacobsen etc.

Why:
But, the real question about Midcentury modern is why is so popular this days? Well, we all know since the dawn of human civilization we have looked to the past for inspiration. Nostalgia also plays a big role in how we choose things to surround ourselves with. And we must admit, a lot of our preference for a certain style comes from our subconscious. These hidden memories of the happy childhood keep the past alive in the present, evoke warm feelings and provide us a sense of security in the modern era when life is filled with so much hard work, modern technology and a little free time for our family and friends. After all, it`s only natural we all want more of that good feelings in our present.
So, if you are middle-aged (like me) and you miss just a little bit your childhood home, maybe you`ll like it and want to see it again in your home.

But, even for those who can't recall it from the past, the mid century modern design has great value, because minimalist sensibility and style is in focus again. Younger generation appreciate the simplicity and beauty of this design because it`s fresh, uncomplicated and it looks great with any other style.
Where:
There are countless stores and websites devoted to Midcentury modern tastes. One of them is Chairish, place where design lovers buy and sell. So, If you are looking for some great pieces of furniture, lighting, decor, accessories and other things for you or your home, you can find them here. Few days ago, sweet Holly, Community Manager at Chairish, email me. She told me how people in Chairish likes my blog, admire my design taste and style and thinks I`m a perfect fit to take on their exclusive Mix n Match Style Challenge? She asked me am I up for the challenge? Of course I`m up for the challenge!! So, I put together some idea boards using some of pieces form Chairish and mix and match it with other styles. Hope you like it!
Tips:
For the end of story, few small tips. Easy way to add Midcentury modern style to your home without breaking the bank is to combine it with style you already have in your home. It will make it fresh, crisp and modern, and you`ll feel as you have a brand new home. As always, selecting right colors is always the first step to planning your interior, since it leads to your furniture and decor selection. Speaking of color palette, Midcentury modern tend to combine darker neutral tones with saturated accent colors. Also, it`s very important to find right Midcentury patterns when picking the rug and fabrics for your curtains, cushions and upholstery, so chose asymmetrical, abstract patterns. When you are picking lamps and table lamps, chose either very straight, geometric lines or round, curved contour, mostly made of finished metal. And finally, don’t be afraid to break the rules and be creative. Mix and match and create something that pleases your eye. After all, you are going to live in that space.
Here is a list of items I used in my boards (all from Chairish):

Mid Century Nelson Style Walnut Table Clock
Mid Century George Kuvacs Ceterpillar Lamp

Glitz, Glamour and Gorgeous - Hollywood style

Yes, I have a little crush! The over-the-top Hollywood style is caught my eye lately and I must admit, I can`t stop thinking about it!!
Great thing is, it is not just for the rich and famous; a modern version is surging in popularity, fueled by many designers and bloggers. Not everyone can afford original, expensive pieces, but elements of Hollywood Regency style are within reach for even the most budget-minded home decorator.
Going Hollywood Regency is all about the details like wonderful fabrics, velvet drapes, silk lampshades, chandeliers with crystals, sculpted carpets.
It`s meant to be an eclectic mix of styles. Use classic furniture that never goes out of style, add glamorous details and there you have it.

And it`s back big time because it looks luxurious and glamorous, you can create an individual look because it allows you to mix and create your own living space. This style is perfect for a home decoration and a home obsessed bloggers (like me :D), because it give you the opportunity to be able to mix vintage, borderline-tacky pieces, add some glitz and glam and have them live in harmony.
And I think is`s great for me cause it can be a real reflection of my personality, because it allows both details and color, but still appears like purified and clear style.
So, I`m on to it! I have to find perfect details, like

klub sto u kombinaciji mesinga i stakla...
this brass coffee table...
gold sconces or lamps...
odgovarajuće zidne lampe ili svećnjake...

 beautiful art work or mirrors...
savršene umetnine ili ogledala...
perhaps brass or gold shelving unit...
možda upečatljivu biblioteku...

perfect rug...
dobar tepih...
lovely details... ljupke detalje...

and more...
i svašta još ponešto...

OMG, what is wrong with me...!? Am I going completely mead!? I need a coffee and a good night sleep, it will pass...
What do you think ladies?
Oh, I almost forgot... Today I found the perfect little thing... Her name is Magnolia, and she is a jewelry holder.
It's a start, don`t you think?

DIY Cloche

Some time ago I had an accident and broke my beautiful candy bowl. Bottom of the bowl was broken and it was no longer usable.
Rather than throw it away, I began to think what to do with the part that remained intact? The idea was to turn a broken bowl into something beautiful...
For this makeover I needed just a bit of rope and hot glue gun.
Top of my new cloche was very sharp and dangerous, so I wrapped it with the rope and secured it with hot glue. Now it`s safe and lovely! For the end of this makeover I just added a couple of little flowers in the spirit of spring and there you have it! My new DIY cloche! Isn`t it lovely?!
Oh, this lily`s smells so good!! Sending you a spring greeting!!

Zar nije slatko?!
Ah, kako mirišu zumbili... Šaljem vam prolećni pozdrav!
